Report: Man Utd lead race for midfielder linked with Spurs and West Ham

Gazzetta dello Sport have revealed that Manchester United are leading the race for Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi, who has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.

After impressing on loan at Monza in Serie B during the 2020-21 campaign, Frattesi established himself as a regular in Sassuolo’s starting eleven last season.

His performances at the Mapei Stadium last season have seen him rewarded with multiple caps for Italy, and also put him on the radar of Premier League clubs during the summer transfer window, including Spurs and West Ham (Gazzetta).

Gazzetta have now revealed that the midfielder was considered ‘untouchable’ by Sassuolo despite Antonio Conte’s men showing interest in the player during the summer.

The report adds that Frattesi continues to be on the wish lists of Inter Milan and AS Roma, as well as several Premier League clubs.

It is explained that although Roma have not ‘let up’ in their pursuit of the 23-year-old, Man Utd are now now ‘above all’ in the race for the midfielder.

I would be surprised if Spurs made a move for Frattesi or any other central midfielder for that matter in January. Even if Pape Matar Sarr is loaned out, Conte has enough options in the middle of the park, particularly since he seems wedded to the 3-4-3 formation.
