Report: Man Utd open talks with rumoured long-term Spurs target

Manchester United have already held a meeting with the representatives of Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar about moving to Old Trafford this summer according to a report by ESPN.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for Lemar in January with Foot Mercato reporting that the club were in negotiations with Atletico regarding signing the fleet-footed winger.

Head coach Jose Mourinho is reportedly a big fan of the former Monaco player (Diario AS).

The Mirror reported last month that Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal also held an interest in Lemar, while Calcio Mercato revealed that Juventus are also keen to bring him to Serie A.

The French international has failed to hit the heights expected of him at Madrid after his move from Monaco a year and a half ago and has seen his opportunities at the Wanda Metropolitano limited this campaign.

The report by ESPN claims that Manchester United have stolen a march on the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal as they look to bring Lemar to the Premier League.

It is suggested that the 24-year-old is keen to leave Atletico in the summer and the Red Devils have taken the first steps to give him an exit route.

Spurs Web Opinion

I, like many Spurs fans, was left disappointed when we missed out on Lemar a couple of years ago but if anything his displays at Atletico has vindicated our decision not to pay big money for him. We have some decent options out wide with the likes of Son, Lucas, Bergwijn, Lamela, and Sessegnon and I’m not particularly sure that a move for Lemar will make sense for us right now.
