Report: Manchester United rule out bid for Spurs star

According to a report by Sky Sports, Manchester United have decided against pursuing a deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The 27-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season and will be able to walk away free in the summer.

The report claims that United did hold discussions with Spurs regarding Eriksen in the summer but suggests that the former Premier League champions have now withdrawn their interest.

It is also suggested that Eriksen prefers a move away from the Premier League with Inter Milan said to be his most likely destination. However, the report does not say if the Italian giants will make a move this month or wait until the summer to land him for free.

The former Ajax midfielder has been a mainstay for Spurs since moving to the club back in the summer of 2012 but his performance levels have dropped in the last year or so.

It now looks like just of a question of whether he will leave in January or see out his contract and leave in the summer.

Selling Eriksen this month would be in the best interest of the club as that would at least guarantee that we get a transfer fee for him. However, looking at the lack of creative midfield options in the squad, it looks like we certainly need to buy a replacement. Lo Celso has unfortunately not looked the player I hoped he would be.
