Report: Man Utd set to challenge Spurs for £26m-rated centre-back

Foot Mercato have revealed that Manchester United could challenge Tottenham in their pursuit of Lyon centre-back Joachim Andersen this summer.

Spurs have unsurprisingly been linked with several centre-backs on the back of their defensive struggles last season and Andersen’s name has cropped up more often than most over the last few months.

The Atheltic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke revealed on The View From The Lane podcast back in May that Andersen was keen on a move to Spurs while Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has also baked the North Londoners to compete for the 25-year-old’ signature this summer.

Reports from Denmark have even claimed that Spurs are in the driving seat ahead of other clubs to secure the defender’s signature.

However, according to the latest information from Foot Mercato, United could challenge the Lilywhites for the centre-back, who impressed on loan at Fulham last season.

The report states that Lyon are ready to cash in on Andersen amidst interest from Spurs and United. It is asserted that the Ligue 1 club value the Danish international at around €30m (£25.7m).

While Andersen did impress during his spell at Fulham last summer, the 25-year-old’s career has stagnated over the last couple of years and he has not quite managed to fulfil the potential he showed in his early days at Sampdoria.

The fact that Vestergaard and Christensen started ahead of him for Denmark throughout the Euros also suggests that the Lyon star does not quite belong to the top tier of central defenders.
