Report: Man Utd want Spurs star but are worried for this reason

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino warned that the club may have to undergo a painful rebuild in the summer (Evening Standard), and based on reports in the press it looks like there is going to be a lot of comings and goings in North London.

Reports indicate that Tottenham are willing to listen to offers for several of their stars (Evening Standard) and that Pochettino has identified the targets who he wants to replace them with (Football.London).

One player who has been an almost ever-present in the team up until this season is midfielder Eric Dier. The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer goes about rebuilding his squad (The Times).

The Daily Mail now reports that United are keen to upgrade on Nemanja Matic, and have identified Dier as a player to improve their midfield. However, the report claims that the Red Devils have some reservations over Dier’s fitness.

The former Sporting Lisbon man only managed 28 appearances in all competitions last season after he experienced a trio of unexpected problems — first a bout of appendicitis that kept him out from mid-December through mid-January, then tonsillitis that left him out of the squad for almost the whole of February. He then recovered fitness just in time to play 90 minutes in Spurs’ loss to Southampton before getting called up for England duty where he injured his hip.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Manchester United do make an offer of around £40 million for Dier, then Tottenham could be tempted to sell given that they are reportedly pursuing other midfield targets. However, we at Spurs Web believe that Pochettino will block any move for Dier as he values his versatility very highly.
