Report: Manager has ‘given his approval’ for club to sign Tottenham player

Il Romanista have claimed that Sergio Reguilon has now emerged as a target for AS Roma in January.

After enduring a difficult campaign on loan at Atletico Madrid, where Reguilon struggled to remain fit, the left-back has given a decent account of himself during his temporary stay at Old Trafford.

However, it remains to be seen if he will remain with the Manchester club, with Erik Ten Hag admitting last week that the Red Devils would have to talk to Spurs about extending the player’s loan beyond January (Fabrizio Romano).

Over the last couple of days, reports have indicated that Borussia Dortmund are eyeing a move for the left-back, with journalist Patrick Berger even telling Sky Sport Germany that the Bundesliga club have already reached out to Spurs about the 27-year-old.

Roma could enter the race for Sergio Reguilon

It has now been suggested by Il Romanista that Roma could also enter the race for Reguilon’s signature when the transfer window opens at the start of next month.

The outlet states that the Serie A club see the Spurs star as a potential replacement for Leonardo Spinazzola, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

They describe Reguilon as a ‘very versatile left-back’ with a good engine and add that Mourinho, who worked with him at Spurs, has ‘given his approval to the operation’.

Tottenham will be delighted to see that the race for Reguilon’s signature is intensifying ahead of January. The Lilywhites would be hoping for a permanent sale or a loan with an obligation to buy, but it remains to be seen which of these projects interests the 27-year-old.
