Estadio Deportivo have claimed that Diego Simeone has lost confidence in Sergio Reguilon and that the left-back will not stay at Atletico Madrid beyond the end of his loan spell in the summer.
Reguilon missed nearly the entirety of the first part of the campaign due to a groin injury and is yet to start a single match for Atletico, coming on as a substitute for all five of his appearances so far (Transfermarkt).
Estadio Deportivo state that the left-back has been ‘one of the great disappointments’ of the season so far and has failed to win over Simeone.
The report adds that the 26-year-old has not performed to the expected level since returning from his injury and lost his manager’s trust when he was sent off against Almeria last month despite coming on with just 22 minutes left on the clock.
The publication states that Reguilon is not likely to get much game time for the remainder of the season since Atletico are out of all the cup competitions, and the Spaniard will return to his parent club in the summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
Reguilon has been quite unfortunate with his fitness issues, which have prevented him from adapting to life at Atletico.
Given the Spaniard’s struggles this season, Spurs are likely to have a hard time offloading him for a decent fee in the summer and might thus have to loan out the left-back again.
