Report: Manager has made personal ‘request’ for club to sign Spurs player

Mundo Deportivo report that Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli has personally requested that the La Liga club sign Bryan Gil in January.

The race to sign Gil on loan seems to be heating up ahead of the January transfer window, with the likes of Sevilla, Valencia, Cadiz and Real Sociedad all credited with an interest in the winger over recent weeks (Estadio Deportivo).

If reports over the past few days are to be believed, Sevilla have now moved into pole position to sign the 21-year-old. ABC Sevilla reported on Thursday that Los Nervionenses had already begun talks with Tottenham regarding a loan deal for Gil.

Mundo Deportivo have now claimed that Sampaoli has requested that the club’s hierarchy replace Isco, whose contract has been terminated, with the Spurs star.

It is alleged that Sevilla have ‘initiated contacts’ with Tottenham regarding the Spaniard and that the club will start negotiating a deal with the North Londoners for the player as soon as their pursuit of Rennes centre-back Loic Bade is completed.

Mundo Deportivo add that Gil is a particularly appealing option to Sevilla as he counts as homegrown, thus allowing the club one more space in their Europa League squad.

I expected Gil to return to Valencia on loan, given that his loan spell at the Mestalla last season was a success but it now appears as if Sevilla are the favourites to snap him up.  However, there could still be more twists and turns in this saga as Tottenham will be keen to send the 21-year-old to a club where he is guaranteed regular starts.
