Report: Manager has rejected Spurs because he wants Real Madrid instead

TYC Sports have reported that Mauricio Pochettino has rejected the Tottenham job because he wants to see whether Real Madrid could come looking.

Tottenham are currently without a full-time head coach after Antonio Conte parted ways with the North London club last month, and Pochettino has been linked with a possible return (Mail Online).

Pochettino spent five-and-a-half years with the Lilywhites, which ultimately ended with a trip to the Champions League Final in 2019 before he was sacked not long after.

The Argentine is still out of work after he parted company with PSG in July 2022, but TYC Sport claim he has his eye set firmly on the Real Madrid job.

Pochettino is allegedly the favourite candidate of Madrid president Florentino Perez if Ancelotti leaves the club this summer.

Madrid are said to be planning just in case Ancelotti does decide to leave, and Pochettino’s alleged decision to reject Tottenham has not gone unnoticed by Los Blancos.

Spurs Web Opinion:

A lot could hinge on whether the Real Madrid and Chelsea jobs open up this summer, as they seem the two most likely teams to be ahead of Spurs in the manager pecking order.

If Ancelotti and Potter remain in their positions, Spurs could actually have their pick of the bunch.
