Football Insider have reported that Nuno Espirito Santo has told Everton that he thinks he could sign Spurs’ Matt Doherty for them this summer if he is given the Merseyside job.

Doherty was signed by Tottenham under Jose Mourinho from Nuno’s Wolves last summer but failed to hit the expected heights across the following season.

In fact, the Irishman was often displaced in the squad by the likes of Serge Aurier and Japhet Tanganga, with Doherty having to make do with cup competitions and the Europa League.

Football Insider claim that Nuno is still a contender for the Everton job as Rafa Benitez has yet to sign a contract with the Toffees.

A recruitment source reportedly told the publication that Nuno would like to re-sign the right-wing-back this summer and put him straight into the Everton XI.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Unless the new manager wants to switch to a five at the back next season, I would accept any decent offer for Doherty. He deserves another chance but Spurs can’t really afford to hand one out and the funds could be better spent on a Max Aarons type right-back.
