Report: Manager is ‘willing to listen’ to Spurs but is not getting ‘carried away’

According to the print edition of Record (04/05/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), Ruben Amorim is willing to listen to what Tottenham have to offer but has no immediate plans to quit Sporting Lisbon.

It was Record who reported earlier this week that Amorim’s name is on Spurs’ shortlist of candidates to replace Antonio Conte this summer.

It is explained that the North London club’s hierarchy are planning to speak to the Portuguese coach about their managerial vacancy with the Sporting boss said to be open to the switch.

The report added that his contract contains a release of €20m (£17.5m), which can be triggered only by foreign clubs this summer.

The same publication has now offered an update on Amorim’s future, claiming that he is ‘willing to listen’ to all the arguments that Tottenham put forth and that his future remains ‘open’.

However, it is explained that the 38-year-old is not getting carried away by Spurs’ interest and is continuing to plan for the future at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.

It is alleged that Sporting are not too fussed by Tottenham’s interest as the club have a ‘frank relationship’ with Amorim.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like these will merely be exploratory talks but I suspect that Amorim would be more than happy to take the Tottenham job if it is offered to him.

However, I do not see the Portuguese coach being among the first four or five names on the North London club’s shortlist.
