Report: Manager keen to hold on to 25-year-old despite Tottenham’s offer

Portuguese publication A Bola have now reported that Porto boss Sergio Conceicao is desperate to hold on to Luis Diaz amidst Tottenham’s advances.

Since it first emerged on Tuesday that Spurs had made an offer of €45m (£37.6m) plus bonuses for Diaz (Pedro Sepulveda), there have been several contradictory reports on the transfer.

The Independent have claimed that Tottenham feel they are ‘close’ to striking a deal with Porto but according to The Sun, the North Londoners are not willing to meet the Portuguese club’s asking price.

Alasdair Gold confirmed on his YouTube Channel on Wednesday that Antonio Conte’s men were pushing for Diaz’s signature as things stand but The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick suggested that the Lilyhites face an uphill battle to snap up the Colombian.

A Bola have now revealed that Porto are holding firm amidst Tottenham’s advances and demanding that Diaz’s €80m (£66.8m) release clause be met.

The report explains that the reason Porto are keen to keep the winger at the Estadio do Dragao is that Conceicao considers the player to be ‘fundamental’ to the club’s pursuit of the Primeira Liga title.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the various contradictory reports that have emerged on Diaz over the last few days, it is anybody’s guess how this transfer is going to develop. Tottenham history when it comes to big-money last-minute deals does not fill me with promise that this is likely to go through.
