Report: Manager stalling on job offer in hope that Spurs could come calling

According to a report from Il Messaggero (as relayed by TBR Football), Maurizio Sarri is stalling on Lazio’s offer as he is eyeing the Tottenham job.

With Tottenham calling off their talks with Antonio Conte, it remains to be seen what the North London club’s next course of action will be.

Some sources have suggested that the Conte deal could still potentially be on while other reports have claimed that Erik Ten Hag and Roberto Martinez could now be the leading targets.

Sarri, who was previously mentioned as a potential target for Spurs, now seems as though he could be back in the running.

Il Messaggero reveal that the former Chelsea boss has all but agreed to become Lazio’s next head coach but is now stalling after learning about the breakdown in talks between Tottenham and Conte.

That suggests that the 62-year-old believes he stands a chance of getting the Spurs job.

Spurs Web Opinion

Some fans will not be enthused by the idea of Sarri taking over at Spurs but I do feel that the Italian was treated quite harshly by Chelsea. He got sacked despite leading the club to the Europa League title and achieving a top-four finish while playing some good football. While Sarri would not be an ideal choice, I believe he would be a better appointment than either Ten Hag or Martinez.
