Report: Manager tells alleged Spurs target he can’t leave on loan in January

Manchester United interim manager Ralph Rangnick has told alleged Tottenham target Dean Henderson that he cannot leave the club on loan in January, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has struggled for game time this term after missing the start of the season due to Covid-19.

The lack of immediate opportunities for Henderson is said to have led to him seeking an exit from Old Trafford, with the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle and Ajax keeping tabs on the situation.

However, the Manchester Evening News claim United boss Rangnick won’t allow Henderson to leave in January as the German wants three active first-team goalkeepers ready at his disposal.

The report also adds the decision could cause a rift between player and manager, with David de Gea making the number one spot his to lose.

Meanwhile, Spurs are said to be continuing to hold a firm interest in the England international with Hugo Lloris’ current deal entering the final six months.

Henderson is contracted with United until June 2025 and has made just two appearances in all competitions this season – in a Champions League group game and Carabao Cup tie.

If Spurs can land Henderson then that would be a very decent signing. But they should only consider doing that as an option if they cannot tie Lloris down to a new deal. Both would be idea, but Henderson won’t want the same situation at another club.
