Report: Manchester City line up £40million bid for Spurs player

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks.

The Sun report that Pep Guardiola has identified the England international and is said to be a keen admirer of the 24-year-old.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is said to be prepared to allow the former academy graduate to leave if a bid in excess of £40million is received.

Mourinho is keen to bring further signings in ahead of the new season and is said to have been told by club hierarchy that he must sell first if the club are to spend any substantial amounts in the transfer market.

The arrival Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton could have an impact on how much playing time Winks is afforded by Mourinho while it is said that Spurs are unlikely to receive any bids in the region of the £56million they paid for club record signing Tanguy Ndombele last summer.

If Winks is made available, the report claims that there will also be interest from Italy and Spain, however, City are expected to be most likely to persuade to part company with the boyhood Spurs fan (Telegraph).
