Report: Manchester United face Ronaldo dilemma ahead of Spurs match

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick is reported to be mulling over whether to start Ronaldo against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday or keep him for next week’s Champions League fixture, according to The Mirror.

Ronaldo was absent for United’s 4-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City on Sunday after suffering an issue with his hip flexor and jetted to his native Portugal to help aid his recovery.

The 37-year-old is said to be desperate to return to action against Tottenham at Old Trafford this weekend, however, Rangnick is deciding whether to instead keep him out of his starting eleven and instead ensure he is fully fit to fit Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening.

Ronaldo is yet to return to full training with his United team-mates and has instead undergone a session under the watchful eye of the club’s medical team which followed with more treatment on the affected area.

Rangnick faces a potential selection headache in attack with Mason Greenwood suspended, Marcus Rashford suffering a form crisis and Edinson Cavani has missed the last six matches with a groin issue.

Having Ronaldo absent from the United line-up would represent a significant boost for Tottenham’s hopes of coming away with all three points given how he dismantled Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in the 3-0 defeat in north London earlier in the season.
