Report: Manchester United monitoring Tottenham midfielder

CalcioMercato have claimed that Manchester United are monitoring Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele ahead of any potential Paul Pogba exit.

Ndombele was linked with a move away from Tottenham after allegedly informing Nuno Espirito Santo that he wanted to leave the club in the summer.

However, the midfielder ended up staying at Spurs and has since been reintegrated into the side, having started the last two matches against Rennes and Chelsea.

However, if CalcioMercato are to be believed, Man United could make a move for the 24-year-old amidst the uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba’s future.

The report explains that with Pogba’s contract running out next summer, the Red Devils have identified Ndombele as a potential replacement for the former Juventus man if he leaves.

The report adds that AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie is the other option Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are eyeing as Pogba’s replacement.

This could have a big impact on Tottenham’s transfer plans, with Kessie also thought to be on Fabio Paratici’s radar.

One does get the feeling that this really is the last chance saloon for Ndombele at Spurs.

While no one doubts the midfielder’s talent, if he does not improve his fitness and establish himself as a mainstay in the Tottenham starting eleven under Nuno, I suspect Spurs will be happy to cash in on him in January.

While it would not be ideal for the North Londoners to sell him to a Premier League rival, I doubt any Italian or Spanish club are likely to match Ndombele’s current salary.

So, the Lilywhites might not be left with much of an option if they do wish to get the Frenchman’s salary off their wage bill.
