Report: Manchester United weigh up move for reported Spurs goalkeeper target

Manchester United are considering entering the race to sign West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone with the club open to letting Dean Henderson leave this summer, according to 90min.

Johnstone, a former Red Devils academy player, has just a few months remaining on his current deal and is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

With talks of a new deal not on the table at present, a host of Premier League clubs from the likes of Tottenham, West Ham and Southampton have kept tabs on the situation at The Hawthorns (Sky Sports).

But 90min claims United have now entered the picture for Johnstone and could look to bring the 28-year-old back to Old Trafford.

The report states that Johnstone would act as a back-up option for starter David de Gea, with current number two Henderson heading toward the exit due to a lack of game time.

It adds that United are keen to bring in the Baggies stopper to bolster the goalkeeping ranks and add more cover on top of the veterans of Lee Grant and Tom Heaton already in the squad.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs should keep their pursuit up for Johnstone and maybe even Henderson with the future of Pierluigi Gollini already looking decided. The Italian hasn’t made the squad over the last couple of weeks and with Hugo Lloris as the firm starter, there isn’t anyone else to push him accordingly.
