Report: Manchester United’s hopes of signing Spurs pair have ended

Tottenham Hotspur have certainly switched things up since Jose Mourinho took over as the new head coach, with the Portuguese being appointed less than 12 hours after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked.

Under Pochettino, Lucas Moura has always struggled to get an extended run in the starting line-up. Even when the winger scored a second-half hat-trick in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Ajax, he was dropped for the European showpiece against Liverpool in Madrid.

Meanwhile, Eric Dier had also fallen out of favour with the Argentine manager towards the end of his reign, with just a couple of starts at centre-back this season for the Englishman under the previous management.

However, Mourinho has now come in and made both regular first-team starters, with Moura having more success than Dier it has to be said.

A report has now revealed that Manchester United were actually confident of signing Moura or Dier from Spurs before Mourinho came in and mixed things up (Daily Star).

Mourinho started both players in yesterday’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in North London.

The report claims that any hope United had of recruiting either Spurs player is now dead in the water.
