Report: Many at the club think current player is a future Tottenham captain

According to a report from Football.London, there are many within the club that believe Oliver Skipp will be Tottenham Hotspur captain one day in the future.

Skipp is a product of the club’s academy and, having developed through the youth system at North London, is now firmly established in the first-team squad.

He has now registered 67 appearances for Spurs (Transfermarkt) and finally scored his first goal at the weekend.

It was a long time coming, but Skipp hit the back of the net with a fine long-distance strike to open the scoring against London rivals Chelsea.

His celebrations after the goal showed just how much it meant to him to score for his boyhood club in front of the home fans.

After a promising start to his Spurs career, and an impressive loan spell with Norwich, Skipp had seen his progress hampered by a string of injuries over the last 18 months.

However, the 22-year-old is now set for an extended run in the team with Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma both out with injury.

It is hoped Skipp can now fulfil that early promise and push on to become a key player for Spurs. The report from Football.London suggests we may be watching the future Tottenham captain, according to some involved with the club.

Jose Mourinho previously claimed Skipp would be the captain of the club one day, and it is now thought that sentiment is shared by many within Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

I can definitely see Skipp taking the armband in a few years. Once Hugo Lloris is out this summer, Harry Kane will inevitably become the captain, but he has maybe four or five years left in the game before we need to find a new skipper. As an academy player who has risen through the ranks, there can be no better option than Oliver Skipp.
