Report: Marcus Edwards nearly had the opportunity to stay in England

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the exit of Marcus Edwards earlier this week after he completed a move to Portuguese side Vitoria.

Edwards leaves north London having made just one senior appearance for the club – against Gillingham in the EFL Cup in September 2016.

The attacking midfielder was once highly-regarded at Spurs but instead found himself out on loan at Norwich City only for it to be cut short by the then Championship club after just six minutes of senior football due to issues with his attitude (Telegraph).

The Athletic report that Nottingham Forest had shown an interest this summer in signing the Spurs academy product, who has represented England at under-16, under-17, under-18, under-19 and under-20 levels.

Edwards also trained with Brentford earlier this summer with a move of earning away from North London but a deal failed to materialise (Standard).

Instead, with just a year left on his contract, the 20-year-old has decided to try and get his career back on track in Portugal.
