Report: Mauricio Pochettino linked with Spurs return amid Conte uncertainty

The future of Antonio Conte is increasingly unclear, and a new report from 90Min suggests the Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy may look to bring back former manager Mauricio Pochettino should Conte not commit to a new contract.

Conte has been with the club for just over a year now, and has enjoyed a relatively successful reign so far. The Italian guided Spurs to a top-four finish last season, securing Champions League football, and also led the team to their best-ever start to a Premier League campaign this term (after 10 games).

The period of transition has been swift, with results and performances on the pitch largely improving, and an apparent shift in the behaviours and attitudes of everyone involved with the club behind the scenes. It has also been a fairly turbulent period too, though.

With Conte’s contract set to expire at the end of this season, The Telegraph understands Spurs have offered a new deal with a reported £1 million-per-year pay rise, but Conte is in ‘no rush’ to commit his future.

Regardless, 90Min claims there are some among the Tottenham hierarchy who have other ideas anyway, with former manager Mauricio Pochettino potentially being lined up for a sensational return to North London.

A previous report from 90Min suggested Pochettino believed the Spurs job would become available in the near future and that he would be keen on a return. And now, the outlet suggests the Argentine manager still has “plenty of admirers within the club.”

Apparently, Pochettino has “unfinished business” with Spurs, and one thing working in his favour is the fact he “remains beloved to key players” such as Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

Spurs Web Opinion

I absolutely love Mauricio Pochettino and I think he was a fantastic manager for us, but I am also a firm believer that you should always move forward and that things end for a reason. My preference would be that Conte signs a new deal. If that doesn’t happen, I wouldn’t be totally against Pochettino returning but I would like the club to explore other options rather than operating on nostalgia.
