Report: Mauricio Pochettino makes demand to Newcastle regarding manager job

Former Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has made clear demands to Newcastle United regarding what he would need in order to take the job, according to the Sun.

It has been reported for several weeks that Pochettino is the number one choice for Newcastle’s prospective new owners (Sky Sports).

The club’s £300 million takeover by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund is expected to be completed soon (Times).

Le10Sport revealed earlier this month that negotiations between the Magpies’ new ownership and Pochettino’s representatives were at an advanced stage. They claimed that it was only a matter of time before the 48-year-old accepted the job.

The Sun now asserts that the Argentine has made it clear to Newcastle’s prospective owners that he would need total control over transfers if he is to take the job.

It is sensible for Pochettino to make this demand as we’ve seen before how owners often push to sign the players they want as soon as they take over a club. However, I believe he will be making a mistake if he accepts the Newcastle job. There will be vacancies at clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG or Juventus if the Argentine is prepared to remain patient for a few more months.
