Report: Mauricio Pochettino prepared to wait for next job

According to The Sun’s Dave Kidd, Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to wait patiently until one of Manchester United or Manchester City come calling.

The Spurs boss has been without work for almost a year since parting ways with the North Londoners last November and it was reported last week that both the Manchester clubs were eyeing potential moves for the former Tottenham boss (Daily Mirror).

Kidd has now claimed in his latest column that the Argentine is prepared to wait until one of the two clubs come calling and has decided to keep his head down at his family homes in North London and Barcelona, shunning TV punditry opportunities.

He asserts that although the Manchester United hierarchy are desperate for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer to succeed, Pochettino has been earmarked for the Old Trafford hot seat ever since he and his assistant Jesus Perez met with Sir Alex Ferguson during the final months of Louis van Gaal’s tenure in 2016.

Kidd claims that while the 48-year-old would be tempted if City were to offer him the Etihad hot seat in the future, the Man Utd post is Pochettino’s ‘dream job’ as the challenge of restoring the club to their former glory is one that appeals to the former Tottenham man.

It is also revealed that Pochettino could push to bring in Paul Mitchell as the director of football should he get the job at Old Trafford.

Spurs Web Opinion

There has been plenty of debate on social media over the past week from Man Utd fans about whether Pochettino would be an upgrade on Solksjaer. I personally find the debate laughable as there is no doubt in my mind that the Argentine would represent a huge step up.

In fact, I am convinced that Pochettino will turn United into title challengers again within a couple of years if he got the job. So, I am desperately hoping that Solksjaer gets a couple of results under his belt so that he can remain at the wheel.
