Report: Mauricio Pochettino ‘very close’ to taking over at new club

Mauricio Pochettino is said to be edging closer to taking over as the new Newcastle United manager, according to a report from Le10Sport.

Pochettino has been out of work since being sacked by Spurs in November 2019, although he has been linked with some high profile jobs in that time.

This includes the managerial hot seats at Manchester United (Daily Mail), Real Madrid (Diario Madridista), Juventus (Tuttosport), and PSG (AS).

However, it is Newcastle United that the Argentine has been heavily linked with in recent weeks.

Newcastle’s £300 million takeover by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund is expected to go through in the coming weeks (The Sun).

It has been reported that the former Spurs boss is the prospective new owners’ prefered choice to take over from Steve Bruce (Sky Sports).

Le10Sport reveal that Newcastle’s efforts to sign Pochettino are now gaining momentum.

It is claimed that the negotiations between the two parties are at an advanced stage and that Pochettino is extremely close to becoming the next Newcastle manager.

Spurs Web Opinion

If there is truth to this report, I can’t help but think Pochettino’s haste to get back into management has caused him to become a little desperate. He would be better off waiting for one of the big jobs like PSG, Real Madrid, or Juventus to open up in a few months. It is going to take a while for Newcastle to establish themselves among the big guns and challenge for major honours. So, I don’t see this as the right step for the Argentine.
