Report: Mauricio Pochettino ‘waiting for green light’ to take his next job

According to a report by AS, Mauricio Pochettino is ready to replace Quique Setien as Barcelona manager with the Catalan giants plotting a move for the former Spurs boss.

Unsurprisingly, it is claimed that Setien’s time at the Camp Nou is about to come to an end following Barcelona’s humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter final clash on Friday.

AS reveal that former midfielder Xavi Hernandez is still the club’s number one target, with the 40-year-old said to have a clause in his contract with Qatari side Al-Sadd that would allow him to leave if Barca want him.

However, it is unclear whether Xavi would be willing to take the job ahead of the club’s presidential elections scheduled to be held next year.

The report claims that Pochettino is Barcelona’s plan B, with the club’s hierarchy already holding talks with the former Spurs boss over the position.

It is suggested that the Argentine has been on the club’s radar for a long-time and would not make as many demands before taking the job as Xavi is likely to.

In fact, it is alleged that Pochettino is currently in Barcelona and is waiting for the green light from the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

It very much sounds like Xavi is the board’s as well the fans’ preferred choice to replace Setien. Pochettino needs to be careful before walking into what could be an extremely toxic situation, due to the unpopularity of the current president, Josep Maria Bartomeu. Whoever he picks to be the next Barca manager is not going to be a popular choice with the fans.
