It is claimed that the 20-year-old chose to move to Spurs over West Ham after both the Lilywhites and the Hammers had initially agreed on a deal with Benfica. Chelsea also reportedly made an offer for the youngster’s signature.

Tottenham have been short of options in midfield recently with Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele both sidelined and Fernandes’ arrival will certainly help address the team’s midfield issues.

Spurs Web Opinion

Great things were expected off Gedson Fernandes when he first broke into the Benfica team but he has gone off the boil a bit lately. However, there is certainly a really talented player in there and this deal is relatively risk-free given that we have the option whether or not to make the deal permanent in a year and a half.
