Report: Members of Spurs squad left impressed by Nuno; keen to knuckle down and impress

The Athletic have revealed that some Tottenham players were initially wary of Nuno Espirito Santo but now view his appointment in a positive manner after hearing impressive things about the former Wolves boss from their peers.

Tottenham confirmed last week that Espirito Santo will be their next head coach and the appointment has not been met with widespread enthusiasm from Spurs fans partly due to the protracted nature of the club’s managerial search.

There are also concerns among the fans about the Portuguese coach’s programmatic style of play and if The Athletic are to be believed, that is a concern that some players also shared.

The report explains that some members of the Spurs squad were initially wary of the 47-year-old as they felt he would share similar views to Mourinho, who is considered to be a close friend.

However, after speaking with their peers about their new head coach, members of the squad are said to have been impressed by the positive things they have heard.

Apart from hearing encouraging things about his style of play, it is revealed that some players were also pleased to hear that Nuno wanted to bring them to Wolves in the past.

Additionally, some Tottenham stars have also allegedly been told promising things about the Portuguese coach’s willingness to improve players and are said to be looking forward to working with him.

With pre-season training having commenced today for those players who have not been involved on international duty during the off-season, they are said to be ready to roll up their sleeves and work hard to catch his eye.

The way football coaches are perceived publicly is often completely different to how they are seen within the industry by players who have worked with them on a day-to-day basis. Whatever one might say about Nuno’s philosophy, he does seem to be liked and respected by his players, which might be a relief to some Spurs players following Mourinho’s spell.
