Report: Micky Van de Ven injury may complicate club’s deal to sign Spurs player

CalcioMercato have stated that AS Roma fear a move for Eric Dier might not prove straightforward, which is why the Serie A side have identified alternatives to the Tottenham man.

There continues to be a lot of speculation over Dier’s future, which is unsurprising considering that the centre-back’s contract runs out next summer (Transfermarkt).

Last week, The Mirror reported that even though the 29-year-old prefers to leave on a free transfer next summer, Daniel Levy hopes to command a fee for him in January, with some clubs showing interest in the defender’s services.

One of those clubs is thought to be AS Roma, with multiple reports from Italy suggesting over the last couple of weeks that Dier is Jose Mourinho’s top target (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Deal could be complicated for Eric Dier to Roma

The same claim has been reported by Calciomercato, with the outlet stating that Dier’s profile is the one most favoured by Mourinho, owing to the England international’s ‘experience and quality’.

However, the report goes on to explain that the Tottenham man is now expected to get minutes at Tottenham after the injury to Micky van de Ven, and that Sporting Lisbon and Bayern Munich also circling over him ahead of January.

It is asserted that these developments ‘risk complicating’ the Giallorossi’s pursuit of Dier, which is why the Serie A side have identified Genoa’s Radu Dragusin and Red Bull Salzburg’s Oumar Solet as alternatives.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think the main complication for Roma and the other interested suitors in January is that Dier would prefer to leave as a free agent next summer. It is understandable why the 29-year-old would want that as he would have a whole host of options to choose from next summer.

So, while the likes of Roma and Sporting would perhaps be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Dier in January, they would likely have to look elsewhere if they want a centre-back to come through the door mid-season.
