Report: Middlesbrough want prolific Spurs youngster on loan next season

Championship clubs are already preparing their moves for the summer, and it seems Middlesbrough have identified Tottenham Hotspur starlet, Will Lankshear, to lead the line for them next season, with a loan move potentially in the offing.

Lankshear joined Tottenham in the summer of 2022 from Sheffield United, and has quickly shown why Spurs were keen to get him on their books.

This season in particular, the young striker has excelled with the Under-21 team, scoring 22 goals and adding three assists in 24 games (Transfermarkt) as the Lilywhites youth side stormed to the top of the table in the Premier League 2.

He has also enjoyed something of a breakthrough at international level with the England Under-19s, scoring three goals in three games in November of last year.

Will Lankshear could go on loan to the Championship

At 19 years old, the plan for next season could be crucial for a player like Lankshear. Does he stay at Tottenham and flourish in the youth team once more, or does he try his hand at first-team football elsewhere and gain valuable experience?

If he decides on the latter, then it seems Middlesbrough could be his next club. As per Football League World, the Championship club are keen to recruit Lankshear on loan for next season.

It is thought there will be “fierce competition” to sign the youngster, though, but Michael Carrick’s side are “pushing” to be at the front of the queue as he looks to build a promotion-winning team.

The report claims it is “unlikely” Lankshear will be in Ange Postecoglou‘s plans for next season, and as such, “a move is on the cards.”

Many Championship clubs are keen, and there has also been interest from “top-flight European sides” who want to sign Lankshear permanently, but a loan move is considered the most likely outcome.

Spurs Web Opinion

A loan move to the Championship sounds perfect for Lankshear, and I have a feeling he could really excel at that level even at his age. It will be very interesting to see where a lot of our young players go next season, as a lot of them are definitely ready for some first-team experience.
