Report: Midfielder linked with Spurs does not want to transfer in January

Mundo Deportivo have revealed that Tottenham target Franck Kessie does not wish to leave Barcelona in January.

Tottenham were one of the clubs who were credited with an interest in Kessie ahead of the summer transfer window (MilanNews) but it was Barcelona who won the race for the midfielder, snapping him up on a free transfer after his contract at the San Siro ran out.

However, things have not gone according to plan for the Ivorian, who has struggled for game time at Camp Nou.

AS claimed last week that Kessie is not part of Xavi Hernandez’s plans and that Barca are willing to cash in on him just six months after his arrival at the club.

The report asserts that the Catalonian club would be prepared to sell Kessie for just €10m (£8.5m) in January since they signed him on a free transfer.

Mundo Deportivo have now stated that several clubs have expressed an interest in the former Milan man, with Spurs said to be facing competition from the likes of Aston Villa, Fulham and Inter Milan for the 25-year-old.

However, it is explained that Kessies has ‘no intention of changing scenery’ in January despite his lack of game time at Barca.

The midfielder, who is currently rehabilitating from an injury, is allegedly determined to be the ‘best version’ of himself for the La Liga giants in the second part of the campaign.

It is understandable why Kessie would not want to leave Barca with the tail between his legs, just six months on from joining the club. He will likely want to give his all to see if he can be a success at Camp Nou.

However, Barca’s financial difficulties are well documented and it has likely been made worse by their failure to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League. So, the Catalonian club might pressure the midfielder to leave so that they can remove his salary from their wage bill.
