Report: Midfielder linked with Spurs in summer now available for just £8.5m

Diario AS have revealed that Barcelona are ready to sell Franck Kessie for a cut-price fee in January, after the midfielder was once rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Kessie was heavily linked with a move to Spurs prior to the summer transfer window with MilanNews reporting back in February that the North London club were the front-runners to sign the midfielder on a free transfer when his contract at the San Siro ran out.

However, it was Barca who won the race for the Ivory Coast international in the summer, with some reports suggesting that Antonio Conte’s men had pulled out of the race for the 25-year-old due to his exorbitant contract demands (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Things have not gone to plan for Kessie since his switch to Camp Nou, with the midfielder having played just 251 minutes across seven league games this season (Transfermarkt).

AS have now claimed that the former Milan man is not part of Xavi Hernandez’s plans and that Barca are willing to cash in on him just six months after his arrival at the club.

The report asserts that the Catalonian club would be prepared to sell Kessie for just €10m (£8.5m) in January since they signed him on a free transfer.

It is explained that while Barca have not received any proposal for the midfielder so far, Aston Villa have shown interest in snapping up the player.

Spurs Web Opinion

I was enthusiastic about the idea of signing Kessie from Milan but his struggles at Barca suggest that the 25-year-old is perhaps not as good as initially thought. The fact that only Villa are showing interest in the Ivorian perhaps suggests that the top Champions League clubs are not convinced he is of the requisite quality.
