Report: Midfielder linked with Spurs prefers move to La Liga

Marseille midfielder Maxime Lopez, who is said to be on Tottenham’s radar this summer, prefers a move to La Liga according to the reports from Spain.

The Daily Star reported last week that Lopez, who has just over a year left to run on his current contract in France was offered to Spurs after talks over a new deal had stalled.

The Ligue 1 club, who are currently managed by former Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas were said to be keen on cashing in on the midfielder when the transfer window re-opens.

It was claimed that the 22-year-old could be available for around £10 million this summer.

Estadio Deportivo (as translated by Sport Witness) claim that Spurs are among three Premier League clubs interested in Lopez along with West Ham and Aston Villa while Sevilla are also said to be keen on bringing him to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

The report suggests that the Marseille star prefers to move to La Liga rather than a switch to London.

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t see how Lopez would be an upgrade over the midfielders we already have at the club and there are major question marks over whether he has the physical attributes to succeed in the Premier League. However, with his contract running out, he will certainly be a lucrative option for many clubs due to his lower price.
