Report: Midfielder linked with Spurs snubs two-year contract offer

Chelsea midfielder Willian who is said to be on Tottenham’s radar in the summer has reportedly rejected the Blues’ latest contract offer as he looks to leave the club in the summer.

Willian’s contract with Chelsea runs out at the end of the current campaign and it is reported that the winger wants to leave the club as a free agent.

The Brazilian international was famously close to joining Spurs in 2013, only for Chelsea to swoop in at the last moment and snatch him away at the last minute (Guardian).

It has been claimed that Jose Mourinho is keen on reuniting with the 31-year-old at Spurs and the club are said to be readying an offer for him at the end of the season (Daily Star).

Brazilian publication UOL Esporte claim that Willian has rejected Chelsea’s latest offer of a two-year extension.

It is suggested that the experienced wide man is holding out for a three-year deal in order to commit his future to the club and is now considering offers from other teams.

Chelsea have a strict contract policy in the length of contracts which they offer to those who are over the age of 30 (Standard).

Willian has scored 58 goals in 328 appearances for Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and the 2019 Europa League during his stint at Stamford Bridge (transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

A move to Spurs will give Willian the option of staying in London and I can see that working to our advantage. I can also understand why Mourinho will be keen on a player of the Brazilian’s profile but I believe we have to be looking at younger, upcoming players rather than just stop-gap solutions.
