Report: Midfielder meets Mourinho at Hotspur Way ahead of potential transfer

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the race to land Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer after the midfielder held discussions with the club over a summer move, according to a report from Ekstra Bladet.

Reports over the last few months have claimed that Hojbjerg is a top midfield target for Spurs this summer (Football Insider).

However, it looked as if the North Londoners had a major battle on their hands to land the Southampton captain, who has just a year left to run on his contract at St Mary’s.

It was reported last week that Manchester City had entered the race for Hojbjerg, with Pep Guardiola keen to reunite with the 24-year-old who he managed at Bayern Munich (Duncan Castles, Transfer Window Podcast).

Meanwhile, Sky Sports reported that Everton have also held talks with the Saints over the possibility of signing the Denmark international.

However, Ekstra Bladet now reveal that Tottenham are in the driving seat to get a deal for Hojbjerg over the line when the transfer window opens.

It is claimed that the midfielder has already visited the Tottenham training ground and has held a conversation with Jose Mourinho about joining the club.

The report asserts that joining Spurs remains the Southampton star’s preference despite Man City and Everton interest.

Spurs Web Opinion

It does sound like Hojbjerg is the one Jose has identified as the man to complete his midfield puzzle at Spurs. I have to admit that I am not as excited as some Spurs fans seem to be at the possibility of landing the 24-year-old. He could potentially be a decent addition to the squad but I am not convinced that he would be a major upgrade on Winks or Skipp.
