Report: Midfielder set to make up his mind on Real Madrid future

Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos has revealed that he will make a decision on his future at the club following the conclusion of the European Under-21 Championships.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur said to be keen on the player (El Confidencial).

Ceballos saw regular first team action at the start of the season when Julen Lopetegui was in charge at Los Blancos, but when he was sacked in October he saw his game time limited and only 13 La Liga starts last season, scoring three goals. He made a further 10 appearances from the bench and started two games in the Champions League.

Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has already held talks with Ceballos regarding his future with the player saying that he was given a clear message about where his future lies, but refused to reveal where that may be.

Spain start off their Under-21 campaign when they face Italy on Sunday.

“I started well under [former Real Madrid coach Julen] Lopetegui, but once he was fired, I, unfortunately, became secondary,” he told Onda Cero Radio.

“I’m not going to say what was said regarding my talk with Zidane but what I can say is that he was clear with me and once the Euro U21 is over, I will decide my future.

“My aim is to play wherever I go and prove that I can compete in any team in Europe. I hope to succeed because nothing is going to defeat me.”

Opinion

While Spurs will certainly be in the market for a new midfielder this summer, I’m unsure that Ceballos is the answer to make a substantial difference to the quality we already have at the club.
