Report: Midfielder set to start against Bournemouth

According to a report in The Sun, Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho will hand a third consecutive start for Eric Dier in the game against Bournemouth this afternoon.

The Portuguese coach is said to be keen to give Dier his vote of confidence after taking the midfielder off around the half-hour mark against Olympiacos.

Spurs found themselves 2-0 down on Tuesday and Mourinho responded by bringing Christian Eriksen on for Dier in order to provide more quality going forward.

The changed worked as Spurs went on to score four goals without reply in the last hour of the game.

Mourinho was apologetic to Dier after the game and insisted that it was a tactical substitution (The Guardian).

The Spurs boss is said to have a lot of faith in the 25-year-old and sees him as an important part of his plans going forward.

Mourinho said in the pre-match press conference that he sees Dier playing both as a midfielder as well as a defender (Football.London).

Dier’s versatility and intelligence make him invaluable to the squad as not only can he play in that midfield pivot role but he can also comfortably slot into a back three, which we currently seem to be employing in possession. While the 25-year-old has looked a little rusty, that is to be expected given his lack of game time recently.
