Report: Midfielder wanted by Spurs could be on his way to Mourinho’s Roma

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, rumoured Tottenham target, Denis Zakaria, could be on his way to AS Roma during the January transfer window.

Zakaria has gone on to establish himself as one of the most talented midfielders in the Bundesliga over the last couple of years and also starred for Switzerland on the international stage in the European Championships during the summer.

The 24-year-old is seemingly a long-term target for Spurs, first being linked with a move to the Lilywhites in 2019 (Express De).

German news outlet Bild revealed that Tottenham had reignited their interest in the midfielder over the summer but a move never materialised.

Di Marzio now claims that, with Zakaria’s contract at Gladbach running out next summer, Jose Mourinho’s Roma are ready to pounce for the midfielder.

The report claims the Swiss international is also sought after by Atalanta but Roma have a ‘very specific strategy in mind’ to convince him to come to the Stadio Olimpico.

It is explained that the Giallorossi have already initiated contacts with Zakaria’s entourage in an effort to reach an agreement on personal terms.

Roma are reportedly considering the possibility of signing the midfielder on a free transfer next summer or on a cut-price deal in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe central midfield should be the priority position for Tottenham to address in January. In Zakaria and Kessie, there are two top midfielders whose contracts are due to run out next summer and I would take either of them at Spurs.
