Report: Mourinho believes signing Barca star is a ‘no-brainer’ for Spurs

According to Spanish publication Sport, Tottenham Hotspur are set to rekindle their efforts to sign Ivan Rakitic this summer.

It was previously reported that the Croatian international, who has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou, is looking for an exit route and that Spurs and Arsenal were both keen on snapping him up (Daily Mail).

Sport claim that Spurs were initially put off from trying to sign the midfielder due to Barcelona’s steep asking price.

However, the 32-year-old’s situation has now reportedly changed and the report indicates that the Catalan giants are ready to cash-in on him.

Jose Mourinho is said to believe that Rakitic would be the ideal man to slot into Tottenham’s midfield and believes that a move for the experienced campaigner is a ‘no-brainer’ for the club since he only has a year left on his contract at Catalonia.

Spurs have been backed to make another effort to land the Croat but the report asserts that Rakitic’s personal preference would be to move back to Sevilla.

I can see there being truth to this report as Mourinho has never hidden his admiration for Rakitic in the past. Given that the midfielder only has a year left to run on his contract, this could be a potentially lucrative deal for Spurs and Levy. However, I am not sure that the Spurs chairman will be keen on handing a 32-year-old with no resale value, a bumper contract.
