Report: Mourinho could swoop for forward Spurs have held talks with

According to a report in L’Equipe, AS Roma could swoop for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram, who is also wanted by Tottenham.

Thuram had an outstanding campaign for Gladbach last time out, registering 11 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.

The forward was part of France’s squad for the European Championships but made only one appearance in the tournament.

It was revealed last month that Tottenham were holding talks with the 24-year-old’s representatives, with some sources revealing that Fabio Paratici was spearheading the club’s move for the forward.

Foot Mercato even claimed a couple of weeks ago that the Gladbach star was seen as a ‘priority’ signing for the North Londoners.

L’Equipe have now backed up claims of Tottenham’s interest in Thuram, revealing that the Lilywhites have been long been in contact with the player.

However, it is explained that talks have not progressed as Spurs would have hoped which could potentially open the door for Jose Mourinho’s Roma to swoop.

The report also credits Roma’s Serie A rivals, Napoli with interest in the versatile forward.

Thuram’s versatility would make him an excellent addition to the squad if Nuno is indeed planning on employing two upfront next season. While the Frenchman enjoys playing out wide, he has also demonstrated that he is more than capable of leading the line, which means he can cover for Kane.
