Report: Mourinho left disappointed with Spurs star who he has shown faith in

According to a report by Football.London, Jose Mourinho was left disappointed with Eric Dier’s display against Liverpool.

Dier has been a regular at centre-back since the start of the season, with the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld, and even Joe Rodon alternating as the 26-year-old’s partner.

Until a few weeks ago, the England international seemed to be thriving in central defence since being moved to the backline from midfield last season.

However, things have gone downhill for him over recent weeks, with Dier being guilty of  lapses of concentration.

The defender’s marking inside the box has let him down on more than one occasion and was guilty of deciding not to intercept Sadio Mane’s low cross into the box which Roberto Firmino tapped home from close range to give Liverpool the lead in the Reds’ 3-1 win over Spurs last week.

Dier subsequently found himself on the bench for the defeat at Brighton on Sunday.

Football.London revealed that despite the former Sporting Lisbon man being one of Mourinho’s ‘go-to men’, the Spurs boss was not happy with his performance against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

However, the report suggests that Mourinho still has the support of the majority of the Tottenham squad despite the club’s poor results over the last few weeks.

Spurs Web Opinion

Dier’s transition from defensive midfield to central defence has been a positive one for the most part as the 26-year-old looks much more comfortable in the backline. However, for a player who has not played at centre-back at the highest level since he was a youngster, it was always going to take some time for him to get readjusted to the position. So, he was always going to make some mistakes along the way.
