Report: Mourinho has a decent budget to improve position in January

With the winter transfer window set to open in less than a day, Tottenham Hotspur are already being linked with potential recruits.

Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour claims that Spurs are on the look out for a new right-back to improve their options in the position.

While Jose Mourinho has shown consistency by playing Serge Aurier in each of his Premier League matches since taking charge in North London there have been a number of players who have operated on the right side of defence this season including Kyle Walker-Peters, Davinson Sanchez and Moussa Sissoko.

The report suggests that Spurs were keen on Marseille’s Hiroki Sakai and Napoli’s Elseid Heysaj during the summer transfer window but a move for either player failed to materialise.

Jose Mourinho is said to have around a budget of more than £20million to spend to bolster his options.

Opinion

The right-back position certainly needs addressing, especially given Aurier’s inconsistency. He can also be a liability and is not the answer to our long-term requirements.
