Report: Mourinho has personally asked Spurs to sign 23-year-old

Reports claim that Jose Mourinho has personally requested that Tottenham sign Porto winger Luiz Diaz this summer.

The 23-year-old joined Porto from Colombian side Atletico Junior last summer and has enjoyed a successful first season in Portuguese football.

The skilful wide man has notched up 14 goals and seven assists in all competitions this campaign (transfermarkt.com) and has been one of Porto’s most effective attacking outlets.

Tottenham’s interest in Diaz was first reported by Portuguese news outlet Record earlier this week.

Win Sports TV journalist Diego Rueda (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now provided an update on the club’s rumoured approach for the Colombian international.

Rueda insisted that Tottenham’s interest in the winger is very much real and that it is driven by Jose Mourinho, who has asked the club to bring the youngster to North London this summer.

While he claims that he does not know if the Lilywhites have made a bid for Diaz as of yet, he suggests that the opening offer is expected to be worth around €12million (£10.8m).

Spurs Web Opinion

If our interest in Diaz is genuine, I would not be surprised if Jose had personally identified him as a target given his expertise in Portuguese football. While signing the Colombian on the back of one good season in Europe is certainly a gamble, perhaps Jose and his coaching staff have seen enough of the 23-year-old to be convinced he is going to be Porto’s next breakout star.
