Report: Mourinho holds positive contract talks with long-term Spurs target

Tottenham may have to cool their interest in Nicolo Zaniolo as the winger is set to sign a new contract with Roma, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Italian outlet claim that Zaniolo, 22, has held positive talks with Giallorossi manager and former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, and could agree to a new deal very soon.

The news comes after recent reports claimed that Spurs planned to reignite their hopes of signing the Italian winger, who has a value of £43 million.

Spurs have been long-term admirers of Zaniolo, and have been keeping tabs on his situation in Italy due to his physical qualities that could be easily adapted to the style of play in the Premier League.

Although he has yet to tally in Serie A this season, Zaniolo placed himself on the map after his breakthrough campaign in 2018/19 and continued his progression last season.

He has been capped for the Italy national team on eight occasions and has scored two goals in the process.

Zaniolo has emerged as one of Italian football’s best prospects and it looks likely that he will remain in Serie A for the foreseeable future.

Spurs have been keen on the winger since his breakthrough into senior football, but a potential move for him will have to be pushed aside for now.
