Report: Mourinho identifies Atletico Madrid veteran to improve his midfield

According to a report by Spanish news outlet Don Balon, Jose Mourinho has identified Atletico Madrid’s Koke and Fabian Ruiz of Napoli as two options to bolster Tottenham’s midfield next season.

Koke has been one of the most consistent midfielders in La Liga for the best part of the last decade. The 28-year-old came through Atleti’s academy and has gone on to make nearly 500 appearances for the club, in all competitions (transfermarkt).

Don Balon claim that he is now open to a new challenge and would like to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

His intention to leave is said to have alerted Mourinho who not only admires the Spanish international’s ability as a footballer but also his leadership skills.

However, it is suggested that Diego Simeone’s side will not make it easy for Koke to leave with the La Liga giants reportedly set to slap a £100million price tag on his head, although it is suggested that it will likely come down.

If Spurs fail to land Koke, Mourinho has reportedly lined up Fabian Ruiz instead.

The Spurs boss is said to believe that the 24-year-old Napoli player has the characteristics to evolve into one of the best players in his position.

Spurs Web Opinion

We are continually being linked with several number eights which makes me think that Jose isn’t entirely pleased with his central midfield options. Unless Tanguy Ndombele leaves in the summer, I cannot see where another creative midfielder will fit into the squad or how we can afford to move for the names being suggested.
