Report: Mourinho insists Spurs make effort to sign 23-year-old defender in January

According to a report in La Nazione (as relayed by Sport Witness), Jose Mourinho is pushing Tottenham Hotspur to try and snap up Fiorentina defender, Nikola Milenkovic in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old has established himself as a regular in the Viola side over the last two seasons and has made a decent start to this campaign.

CalicoMercato reported earlier this week that the versatile defender, who is comfortable at centre-back as well as at right-back, was stalling on a contract renewal, with his current deal set to run out in 2022.

The report claimed that Fiorentina may be prepared to lower their valuation, with Spurs one of the clubs ready to make a concrete offer in January.

La Nazione now claim that Spurs and Manchester United are continuing to send signals that they might be ready to make an offer in January.

The report reveals that Mourinho was the driving force behind United’s move for Milenkovic during his time at Old Trafford and is now insisting that Tottenham make an effort for him.

The report does not rule out the possibility of the defender signing a contract extension and it is asserted that Giuseppe Iachini’s side will demand around €25m for his services in January.
