Report: Mourinho is a keen admirer of highly-rated Manchester United player

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho is said to be a keen admirer of Dean Henderson amid reports that Manchester United are set to offer him a new contract, according to Manchester Evening News.

Henderson, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United has played a key role in the Blades’ remarkable first season back in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has only conceded 25 goals this season, keeping 11 clean sheets, joint-most in the Premier League, and has only had one error leading to a goal. (Premier League)

The Manchester Evening News claim that Jose Mourinho holds the goalkeeper in high regard after watching him in the academy ranks at Old Trafford while the Portuguese was in charge of the former Premier League champions.

The report suggests that Henderson will only sign a new deal if he is guaranteed the number one spot at Manchester United and does not want to follow the route of Sam Johnson who penned multiple deals but never made a competitive appearance before departing.

Spurs could face competition from London rivals Chelsea for Henderson’s signature should his future lie away from Manchester.

Jose Mourinho is also said to be interested in Lille’s Mike Maignan with goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos having sung his praises to the Spurs head coach (Football London).

Dean Henderson has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this season. He would be a great replacement for Hugo Lloris who has struggled for consistent performances throughout the season. However, Spurs need to concentrate on reassessing on other areas of the squad as the goalkeeper position does not need fixing urgently.
