Report: Mourinho makes midfielder decision due to club’s financial limitations

Jose Mourinho is reportedly determined to help Tanguy Ndombele turn around his Spurs career after fearing the club may not be able to spend much in the transfer market, according to a report by The Mirror.

L’Equipe reported on Saturday that Ndombele was left shocked when Mourinho rang the door bell of his property without warning and invited him for an outdoor training session last Tuesday.

The report suggested that the incident had done little to mend Ndombele’s broken relationship with the Spurs head coach, with the midfielder now said to be considering his future in North London.

The Mirror report that even though Mourinho’s actions were misplaced, his intentions were genuine to try and help the 23-year-old.

It is claimed that the Portuguese coach still believes that the former Lyon man can turn his fortunes around with the Champions League finalists after a frustrating first season in England.

Ndombele has put in a number of disappointing performances this season. A woeful first-half showing at Burnley a few weeks ago saw him come in for particular criticism.

Mourinho is said to understand the club will have little scope to buy players this summer due to the financial crunch they face as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and he is hence said to be determined to work with the likes of Ndombele and help them improve.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Mourinho’s decision to train outdoors with Ndombele was certainly a PR-disaster for the club, I found it to be an encouraging sign to see him spending time with the Frenchman. It conveys that the Spurs boss has no intention of selling Ndombele this summer and wants to help him improve.
