Report: Mourinho mulling over move for former Manchester United player

Tottenham are preparing a surprise move for Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster in the summer, according to a report in The Sun.

Foster, who has been the undisputed number one at Vicarage Road will be a free agent in the summer.

The report suggests that Jose Mourinho wants to sign the experienced stopper to push Hugo Lloris for Tottenham’s number one spot.

Lloris returned to action just a few weeks ago after a four-month injury lay off and the Frenchman’s form has been impressive since his return which included a penalty save in the recent win against Manchester City.

He missed Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Wolves due to a groin strain, with Paulo Gazzaniga once again having to deputise between the sticks.

It is said that Mourinho fails to see the Argentine as being able to push Lloris for the starting berth and believes that Foster would represent a better level of competition for the club captain.

The report also adds that the Hornets are expected to make an attempt to get the 36-year-old to sign a new contract given how important he has been to Nigel Pearson’s side this season.

With Michel Vorm leaving at the end of the season, we need to sign a goalkeeper in the summer whether it is to displace Gazzaniga or as third choice. I don’t think the Argentine has done too much wrong in the opportunities he’s had but Jose’s coaching staff will have likely made up their minds on the 27-year-old one way or the other.
