Report: Mourinho only made recent Parrott comments to spark reaction from striker

Tottenham Hotspur are in the midst of a striker crisis in North London, thanks to the long-term injuries to Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

Kane and Son are Tottenham’s two highest goalscorers this season and have been for a number of years now, which would be a big miss for any top side.

However, the problem isn’t helped by the fact that Spurs have no other recognisable strikers within their squad, with 18-year-old Troy Parrott being the next best thing.

The academy striker has impressed during his two years in North London, but has only made one appearance under Mourinho in the Premier League thus far.

The Special One recently claimed that the young Irishman is not ready for the step up to first-team football as of yet.

However, the Standard have now reported that Mourinho only made these comments to spark a reaction from Parrott in training. Basically, he wanted the teenager to prove him wrong.

Despite this, Parrott has apparently not responded to the challenge in training yet and has not caught Mourinho’s eye.
